Leave it to Google to have sense of humor. For years people have been wondering when they'd bring Gmail out of beta. Finally today Google announced that Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Docs, and Talk are all coming out of beta at once (with no new features at the moment). But in acknowledgement that Gmail is now widely considered the product that would "always be beta, no matter how big it got", Gmail is throwing us a bone: if it makes you feel better, you can pop into Google labs and re-activate the "Back to Beta" option, which gives you a Gmail Beta logo for comfort.

AOL AIM was the first big social network, and it's amazing how badly they've screwed up evolving their product over the years. It's a heavy client that until now has provided only one function well and has generally ignored the market trends. All this has lead to is slowly declining user base. Well it looks like AIM 7 will finally embrace the larger social web in a big way, rolling in the fruits of their SocialThing purchase and enabling users to follow their full social media stream all from within the AIM application. If it does Twitter well, and integrates with gChat/gMail in some way, it might just get me back (at least on my work computer).

All you have to do is type "aviary.com/" into the address bar and a full-page screenshot of the site you're on is transfered to the Aviary.com web-based image editor tool for easy manipulation and sharing.

The age of real time search is here. Google is starting to show some real weak spots in search that Twitter and Facebook could own - real-time search, and social-graph search

This begins my testing of Posterous to begin publishing and sharing shorter content that I just never felt like showcasing in long-form on my blog. I'm taking a cue from Steve Rubel (link above) and "forking my content." For the time being, all of the posts here will be sent into Tumblr as well, which mixes in as well with my music posting from Blip.FM and my YouTube uploads. The mix is going to be an experimentation and change frequently I believe.
